Grand Piano

One of the oldest and classiest instruments that is sometimes misconstrued as linked to opulence is the grand piano. However, this piano is simple the largest rendition of the piano with space for all of the strings to vibrate in accordance with the pine soundboard. These pianos are made by some longstanding companies and have a few basic differences from other pianos.

The grand piano typically has steel, iron, or less often an aluminum string board that holds the tension on all of the strings. The plate forms the primary wavy shape that people have come to associate with the grand. Typically it is made from one giant poured piece of metal to reduce the potential for structural integrity problems. Typically the grand also is open along the top allowing patrons to see into the intricate design of the piano. These are popular with the well off and well to do.

Although the base plate is made of steel, it is not the only improvement. Typically only choice pines are purchased to use as the soundboard for the grand piano. Defective or flawed pieces are cast out, and the board is dried for a long time to ensure that the wood will not warp or bend and will emanate the sound well. The quality ingredients that are used to comprise this mixture create an expensive masterpiece that sounds beautiful.
